Stardew Valley: How to Get Clay

Get the gray stuff from the floor. Here’s how to get clay in Stardew Valley!

Stardew Valley is a country life RPG where you’ll farm, harvest, fish, and generally do a lot of nature stuff. In the game, there are many resources that you can use to craft various items. Some are just cosmetic, others can actually help you grow your farm in certain ways with tools. Clay is one of those resources you’ll need often, so here’s how to get clay in stardew valley.

However, it is not easy to find it in the world.

How to Get Clay in Stardew Valley

In order to easily get clay, you will need to plow the ground with a hoe. You can plow anywhere from your farm to the beach (and it is advisable to do this often at the beach as it is most often found plowing there).

Mines are also a good place to find it. Worm Patches, which look like small patches of dirt with three worms vibrating above, pop out of the ground, are especially good for getting clay. The next time you come across one of these, run up there with your hoe and you might get some clay in return.

Also, if you find a geode and bring it to the blacksmith in the southeastern part of Pelican, there’s a chance that clay will be what you have left after his job is done. This one is random and rarer than just plowing, though.

Finally, you can get clay as a gift during the Winter Star Festival from Jas or Vincent if you are matched with them. However, we don’t recommend giving it to anyone, because not everyone loves or hates it!

What is the clay for in Stardew Valley

Clay is a valuable resource that you can use to craft a variety of different items. Quality Silo, Bone Mill, and Retention Soil all need it to craft, for example.

However, the most clay you’ll need for a specific crafting recipe is 10, and that’s for the silo. As such it should never be something you need a massive amount of unless you are mass producing quality or deluxe retention soil to save you from having to water your crops every days.
