How to start, all the changes and what affects, max level NG+

guides

New Game Plus has become somewhat of a staple of AAA RPGs, allowing players to rediscover the game, but with a few changes to help meet the challenge and keep things fresh. FromSoftware’s latest punishing game, Elden Ring, is no different, offering a New Game Plus mode that’s sure to satisfy veteran Soulsborne fans.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to unlock and start New Game Plus, what changes to make things harder, what progress from previous games continues, and what the “NG+” max game is.

Unlock and start Elden Ring New Game Plus

To unlock New Game Plus, you just need to beat the game’s main story.

After the credits, you can load your save file and continue exploring The Lands Between if you wish. However, at this point, you can also start your New Game Plus journey at any time. To do this, interact with any grace site and choose the option to start your adventure again.

This system works similarly to Dark Souls III, where players could choose to stay in their current NG cycle for as long as they wanted and only continue when they were ready.

What changes in Elden Ring New Game Plus

The main difference here is that the enemies are significantly stronger, and you’ll get more runes when defeating them as a reward to help balance things out.

What continues in the new game +

First, it’s worth noting that there aren’t any major story differences when playing New Game Plus, so don’t expect an entirely different experience here.

All of your stats, levels, items, and weapons you’ve earned in your early (and previous NG+) games carry over to your New Game Plus game, to give you a fighting chance against the toughest enemies.

What is the Max NG+ “difficulty” level

After beating Elden Ring’s New Game Plus, you can then start another round of New Game Plus, increasing the difficulty even further but continuing to retain your stats and items. The game will get much harder as you level up, especially as stat returns start to seriously drop and decrease as your character reaches higher levels.

This continues to increase up to NG+7, which acts as the hardest difficulty setting in Elden Ring, so to speak.
