Catacombs are a recurring type of dungeon in Elden Ring, each containing a boss encounter, helpful spirit ash, and often light puzzle solving to mix things up. The Erdtree Minor Catacombs are no exception, so let’s take a look at how to get to the Erdtree Minor Catacombs at Elden Ring (and why you should go)
Travel to the Erdtree Minor Catacombs at Elden Ring
- Travel to the Grace Site on the outskirts of Summonwater Village
From this location in Eastern Limgrave, follow the road east towards Caelid (keeping an eye out for the Tibia Mariner, if you haven’t already defeated him).
- Follow the path to the Minor Erdtree.
Continue along the path past the Smoking Church (but don’t actually enter Caelid).
- Take the path to the foot of the Minor Erdtree.
To the left you will see a trail that leads to the base of the Minor Erdtree. Beware of Erdtree Guardians who will ambush you along the way.
- Avoid or confront the Erdtree avatar
At the base, you will be confronted with an Erdtree Avatar. Dispatch it or circle the tree on the right to avoid it.
- Open the door to the Erdtree Minor Catacombs
It’s easy to miss, but there’s a door behind the Minor Erdtree that leads to the Minor Erdtree Catacombs.
- Go down the elevator, use the lever to open the boss door, then take the passage under the elevator.
Inside, you can take an elevator to the lower level of the Catacombs. Go through it as usual and use the lever at the end to open the boss door and return to the start. Return the elevator, get off the platform, and you can access another part of the Catacombs (pictured below).
- Defeat the Erdtree Funeral Watchdogs
The boss encounter here can be a bit tricky, as you have to face two Erdtree Funeral Watchdogs simultaneously. The one armed with a sword will engage you up close and the one wielding a scepter will cast spells at you from a distance.
- Claim your reward.
Once you defeat the Erdtree Burial Watchdogs, you’ll be rewarded with the Mad Pumpkin Head Ashes, a powerful Spirit Ash summon in its own right.
Erdtree Minor Catacombs Reward
As mentioned above, successfully clearing the dungeon and defeating the boss will reward you with the Ashes of the Crazy Pumpkin Head. This is a really good reward, as it basically allows you to summon this iconic mini-boss as an in-game companion, and it can help dispatch large groups of enemies or just keep aggro away from you. .
Note, however, that it has an FP cost of 110, which means you need to have put quite a few points into Mind before you can summon it.
