How to create a learning ecosystem to support knowledge sharing

Produced by Steve Nathans-Kelly

As organizations strive to empower employees so they can share their knowledge and derive business value from it, they also strive to facilitate a culture of learning in which we thrive as people. organization or learning ecosystem. It is important that the individual is empowered and can seek their own growth and knowledge sharing, but the portfolio can also be leader focused.

At KMWorld Connect 2021, Kim Glover of TechnicFMC discussed how to create a thriving culture of learning within your organization. “So what does it look like? We have four interrelated platforms and they are global and it starts with skills. So we have a skills management system that feeds into the formal learning program and the platform. -form of formal learning.”

But again, she says, we have a curriculum and we also have employee-focused learning opportunities throughout the catalog with all different types of blended learning solutions. “And that’s where KM connects because we have a strong set of communities of practice that are sponsored and have identified SMEs. And we also have an employee-focused knowledge base, a wiki, where n “Anyone from any department anywhere in the world can contribute their knowledge, but it’s tied to these communities of practice.” The same SMEs watch over them and the pages have to be approved and these become content of informal learning, Glover said.

“And looking to the left here, and you can see where the connections are between these platforms to form this ecosystem,” Glover explained. “We have knowledge fleets and we have best practices that are shared in knowledge management networks. And then we come back to more formal learning. We have learning cohorts where people come together and discuss what they learn in their community of practice.

And then the way the wiki is connected is through these blended learning centers,
Glover continued, “so that the content you access from the learning management system can point to the Wiki. In fact, the skills platform points to the wiki, a bit for level learning so we have learning playlists that span all of these different platforms and bring in content from other places as well so it doesn’t really matter what system you’re in what’s important is what you want to learn today? And then how do you find it?”
