€450,000 for iconic heritage sites in Galway – Connacht Tribune – Galway City Tribune:

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Funding of nearly half a million euros has been announced for iconic historic sites and monuments in Galway.

The allocations, ranging from €3,000 to €85,000, were made as part of the government’s 2022 Community Monuments Fund.

The fund supports a range of measures to protect and promote archaeological monuments – such as emergency conservation repairs, masonry repairs, access infrastructure and the installation of interpretive panels, and social media projects.

Terryland Castle in the city will receive €85,000 as part of the latest funding round, while a further €85,000 will be shared between Menlo and Merlin Castles,

An additional €85k was allocated to St Kerrill’s at Clonkeenkerrill.

€80,000 has been announced for Kilclooney Castle in Milltown, while €50,000 will support work at Abbeygormican.

Other allocations include €29,000 for Issertkelly church and graveyard between Ardrahan and Kilchreest; €16,000 for Killeroran Church and Cemetery, Ballygar; and €15,000 for St. Mary’s at Athenry Graveyard.

Finally, an amount of €3,000 was awarded for works on Tuam Market High Cross.
