Dark Souls III: How to Jump

If you’re new to Dark Souls III, you might have a hard time jumping. To do this, you’ll need to use a slightly different button combination than you might be used to. Here is how to jump and get to those tough places around the world from Dark Souls III.

How to Jump in Dark Souls 3

Alright, so first of all, you’re going to want to start running. To do this, press and hold the Circle or B button on your PS4 or Xbox One controller respectively. Once you’ve launched your character, just press L3 (press the left stick). Hopefully your character should jump a little in the air.

Jumping is best used to get a little extra distance when jumping off high ledges or to avoid the many attacks that will come your way along your journey.

When should you use Jump?

Honestly, in combat, it’s very rare that you want to jump instead of using dodge or just sprint to avoid enemy attacks, but it’s pretty useful when it comes to traversing the world, whether either to skip sections of the ‘main road’ which can take a long time or cost you a lot of souls, or simply for speedrunning purposes.

For example, you might want to grab the Estus Fragment above the Firelink Shrine, but you don’t want to pay the 20,000 souls to get the Tower Key in order to reach it. With the use of jump, you can find a tree to the right of the structure, run over it, and jump onto the roof of the shrine to grab the Estus Fragment without having to spend all your souls.
